Early Recovery Adviser, Suriname Floods

This was an intense mission which took me deep into the jungle in northern and central Suriname on two field trips, travelling by plane and canoe to very remote villages of traditional hunter-gatherers.

Since the floods were already over and people were largely self-recovered, the focus of the mission shifted to DRR and preparedness.

The outputs of the mission included separate reports on Capacity Analysis, Hazard Mapping, an Action Plan and an overall Strategic Framework.

Getting the various stakeholder government departments into one workshop with their UN counterparts to agree the findings was a significant achievement in its own right.
